6 Tips to Help You Exercise More

Regular exercise has many benefits including improving your physical and mental health and reducing your risk of developing chronic diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity.

However, despite these positive health benefits, only 40% of adults are doing enough regular exercise.

We want to help change that!

One of the biggest barriers to regular exercise is lack of time, and when life gets busy, exercise is one of the first things that is scrapped from the to-do list.

So, here are 6 Tips to Help You Exercise More.

1. Plan

One of the most common reasons for not exercising is lack of time.

Planning when you will exercise in advance, can help you to fit exercise into your schedule. Look at your week and block out time in your diary, like you would for any other appointment.

2. Move Often

Increasing your incidental exercise is a great way to get more exercise into your day.

Making small changes in your day like parking further away, taking the stairs, or walking while you make calls can help to increase your daily movement.

3. Make It Part of Your Routine

You don’t have to love exercise. If exercise is not something you enjoy, you may find it hard to motivate yourself.

Make exercise apart of your routine so it fits into your day and becomes part of your routine like brushing your teeth or having your morning coffee.

4. Exercise With Someone

Find a friend or family member to exercise with. This will help to keep you accountable and may make exercise more enjoyable.

5. Set Goals

Think about your “why” and set goals that are meaningful to you.

It’s a good idea to set short and long-term goals to keep you on track.

6. Start Small and Build

Don’t go from 0 to 100 in your first week!

Start small and build up your weekly exercise. This will allow your body to recover and adjust to the new stress you are putting it under.

Doing too much too soon can set you up for failure!
