Set SMART New Years Resolutions

It’s that time of the year again where New Year Resolutions start coming in hot in preparation for 2023.  One of the most common goals for people to set is related to increasing their physical activities but how common is it to lose motivation, fall off the exercise wagon or revert back into our old ways/habits?

For 2023, I want you to start by dreaming big!

What is something you thought was absolutely impossible for you to achieve; or if you had the opportunity, what would you do more of because it makes you truly happy or gives you fulfilment in life? Taking time to really think about these questions and writing them all down can help structure your next goals more effectively.

Now it’s time to really fine-tune these big dreams so you can achieve them. S.M.A.R.T. goal setting is an easy tool you can use to smash those goals:

  • The more SPECIFIC you are, the more likely you will achieve your goal. You want to ask yourself, what I want to achieve and why do I want to achieve this?
  • These goals then need to be MEASURABLE. Rather than saying “I want to be more active”, think more “I want to walk 30 minutes 3 days/week”.
  • Make sure your goals are ACHIEVABLE within a specific timeframe.
  • Your goal should definitely challenge you and just be outside of your comfort zone, so it remains REALISTIC.
  • Finally, attach a TIMELINE to your goal to keep you accountable. You might get it done quickly or it might take you the whole year. Break it down step-by-step and it can be done!

If you have any goals – little or big and don’t know where to start, come see your friends at Precision Physio and we can help you kickstart them!

Happy New Year y’all!
